Our company was incorporated in 1996 by Glen Jordan with only one pickup truck, a hand full of contacts and a desire to be self-employed. The company, at the time, was named Electric Company of South Florida, Inc. From Glen’s home office in Ft. Lauderdale, he grew the company year after year to become competitive and reliable. Glen hired our current President and Owner, Doug Spence Sr. in 2001. Glen Jordan and Doug Sr were classmates in the IBEW electrical trade school back in 1988. Doug and Glen continued to expand the business to where it is today by being responsive, setting expectations and meeting deadlines. Today we are doing business as Central Florida Electrician, a name change that we felt better reflected our location and our focus. What sets us apart? We are not like many of our competitors that attempt to up-sell a customer without necessity or create a huge change order without merit. In many cases, we will be happy to diagnose a small problem over the phone and offer a simple solution to a potential customer; creating goodwill, better friendships, and long-lasting service relationships.
Our motto “Fair prices and no fake upsell” resonates with our homeowner clients and even in the commercial market space. General Contractors know that when they contract work with Central Florida Electrician that we do not push for outrageous change orders on our projects. We build these relationships over time and these relationships remain for a long time.
Today, Central Florida Electrician serves the needs of a wide range of customers, which include not only contractors and residential customers, but also you tubers and content creators who have found great success in hiring us for lighting solutions on outdoor events like racetracks, drifting tracks and burn out pads.
We are Central Florida Electrician—and we are The Electrical Contractor that you know you can rely on.
Doug Sr. is originally from Pompano Beach, Florida where he graduated high school in 1988. He entered the IBEW Apprenticeship program to become an electrician 2 days after graduating high school. In that same apprentice class, Doug met Glen Jordan, who would eventually become Doug’s employer and ultimately his business partner. Doug got his Journeyman License in 1991, while still an apprentice, completing the program by 1993. Upon graduating apprenticeship school, Doug took employment as a plant electrician for a water, wastewater, and lift station facility in Margate, Florida. There, he put his motor control, PLC, and industrial electrical training to work. In 2000, Doug joined Glen at Electric Company of South Florida that Glen founded in 1996. After many years of success together, Doug bought the business in January 2021. He immediately filed for a DBA to re-brand the company as Central Florida Electrician to better represent what it does and where it is located, while still maintaining the history as Electric Company of South Florida. Doug Sr. has established a succession plan for his sons, Doug Jr. and Ben; although he continues to be involved in the day-to-day operations of the business, especially for commercial projects.
Doug Jr. grew up in South Florida, in and around Ft Lauderdale, and graduated from St Augustine’s Nease High School in 2009. In 2010, he moved to Central Florida and began working as an apprentice electrician for an industrial & commercial contractor in Daytona. Joining his father at Central Florida Electrician in 2012, he has worked in the field as a journeyman, foreman, and superintendent. Doug Jr has managed large projects like The First Academy Field House and Uncle Julio’s. He has been responsible for growing our service department; selling and scheduling work every week while maintaining profit margins; and keeping crews safe and productive. Now part owner of Central Florida Electrician Doug Jr. works as the Director of Operations, overseeing all work both in the service department and the large contracts division.
