Some EV owners use the smallest level 1 charger that plugs into a standard outlet. This only makes sense if the EV owner drives about 20 miles a day. Small level 1 chargers add about 1-3 miles per hour while charging.
Most EV owners use the 50 or 60A plug in or hard wire level 2 charger. Most EV’s can be charged at a rate of 12-32 miles per hour while charging on a level 2 charger. Some EV’s charge on level 2 up to 44 miles per hour.
It’s not recommended. While there are many DIY videos and resources on the internet, we always recommend hiring a professional, having them pull a permit and demanding a final inspection from the Authority Having Jurisdiction. The short answer is No. Power requirements for a level 3 super charger / fast charger is typically around 400A 480v three phase. This is not readily available in a single family home.
